Course Number: 440
This course covers the basic principles of absorption refrigeration as compared to mechanical refrigeration. It introduces absorption terminology and common absorption fluid pairs. It examines water/lithium bromide systems, ammonia/water systems, and evolving systems, and concludes with a discussion of chiller selection factors, cost of operation, and absorption system applications.
Topics: Mechanical vs. absorption refrigeration systems; Absorption terminology; Single-effect absorption cooling; Common absorption fluid pairs
Learning Objectives:
Topics: Water/lithium bromide systems; Double-effect direct-fired system; Solution flow cycles; Operating characteristics; Crystallization
Learning Objectives:
Topics: Controls and Maintenance - Limitations; Control scheme; Start, run, and shut down sequence; Operating limits; Safety controls; Maintenance; Insulation; Noncondensables gases
Learning Objectives:
Topics: Ammonia systems background and characteristics; Basic, industrial, and domestic ammonia/water absorption systems; Ammonia system advantages
Learning Objectives:
Topics: Improving COPs; GAX heat pump cycles; Triple-effect cycles; Single-effect system with heat recovery; Double-effect system with solar heating; Power plant heat recovery; Hybrid high-lift pump with mechanical compression
Learning Objectives:

I was getting materials together for the summer Carpentry classes I'm teaching and needed to send you a very big thank you. My new custom Schoolcraft reference book on Blueprints/Measurments are going to be put into service! The students love them, and have told me how great it was for you and I to build a book that fit their needs. Some of the other Corrections Tech teachers have seen them and said " Wow, How did you do that?" And " You can even make your own cover? I never knew that could be done!" So although I'm kinda proud of my adventure, I put all the compliments towards you. You took the time and put the care into this order, you were great showing me all the options and not being a "pushy salesperson", great in keeping me up to date on the print times, and most of all being patient with me. Ordering materials for Corrections Education can be a little tricky sometimes. You made it easy. Thank you!
