Schoolcraft’s Robotics Texts Travel to Brazil | Apr 7, 2010 | 8:42am |
Schoolcraft customer, Jose Ybarra from St. Philips College in San Antonio, Texas, selected our Introduction to Robotics text as his preferred text of choice to teach a group of instructors in Brazil. Jose was kind enough to submit his experience, and how well the text worked in the classroom. Mr. Jose A. Ybarra conducted an Introduction to Robotics Class for students at the Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandense in Pelotas Brazil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The class was conducted in joint partnership between the Federal Institutes for Education, Science, and Technology of Brazil and U.S. Colleges, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Embassy in Brazil, USAID and Higher Education for Development. During the visit Mr. Ybarra met with staff from the Robotics Department, interested in exchanging experiences and learning about Alamo College’s expertise in this area. The invitation was to conduct a 16 hour course in Industrial Robotics at the campus in Pelotas, from March 23rd to March 25th and the textbook selected was Schoolcraft Publishing's Introduction to Robotics. The class was conducted in English, even though the native language is Portuguese. The students were able to grasp the chapter content with little or no difficulty as a result of Mr. Ybarra’s translation of some elements from English to Spanish . Prior to conducting the class, the campuses at Sapucaiai Do Sul and Charquedas were visited. After the Robotics class was completed, the Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina in Florianopolis was visited and the host, Dr. Andre Sousa proudly toured the party through the different departmental laboratories. Thank you Jose for sharing your experience, and selecting our text to help educate those across the world!

TPC online learning | Feb 4, 2010 | 3:54pm |
I am Sam Ajlani, Industrial Systems Technology instructor, at Lanier Technical College in Oakwood, Ga and I am impressed with the TPC online curriculum delivery. We have been able to reduce the lecture and move to a lab/lecture format and complete more of the course curriculum in a quarter. The learning has been greatly been enhanced since utilizing the online delivery format based on the scores we have seen. For example, in one online class we saw an average increase based on pre-test and post-test of 40-50 points. The highest increase was from a new student with no knowledge that had a pre-test score of 20 to a post-test score of 96. This showed incredible increase in knowledge. Also, our seasoned verteran in the class started with a 72 pre-test to a 92 post-test. This shows no matter who used the online courses, they all gained significant knowledge. Another area I really like is the time the students put in to the course. I truly believe this works because they can sit at their homes and be relaxed while working throught the various assignments. The hours for a course was estimated at 1 to 1.5 per lesson. We should be seeing in the last class of 24 lessons between 24 and 36 hours. In actuality, we saw this for the seasoned vetertran who was on target and the new trainees were spending between 30 and 45 hours. This could not be accomplished in the a class environment due to time constraints. Therefore this has greatly allowed each student to learn at their own pace and absorb the material which lead to increased average scores on the post-test. This is working very well. If you want to talk with me about my experiences with the online courses you can call Tina Dietrick at schoolcraft who can give you my contact info. Sam

We Want To Showcase You! | Nov 3, 2009 | 1:17pm |
During the construction of our new website, we knew we wanted an area to showcase our customers. So, we came up with the idea of posting pictures of them (and their students) in action. This has been well received, and we have received many pictures to post. We do want to keep our pictures fresh and new, but that requires us to keep receiving pictures from you, our customer. Would you like to show off your program to the world? Do you have a special trainer that you use along with our texts that would look great in the photo? Do you have a shop that is decorated with lots of cool stuff that helps motivate the students? If so, snap a photo and send it to us! We’d love to post it on our site, and give your program the publicity it deserves. Please contact us today for further information on how to send your pictures to us! We look forward to hearing from you!
